What Happens in the First 30 Days After You Reach Out
Most people hesitate to send the first note because they do not know what it sets in motion. Here is the whole sequence, week by week, including the parts where nothing is owed.

What happens after you contact a marketing consultant?
You send a short note, we meet for a free first conversation, you receive a written recommendation with the lightest useful scope and a price, and if you say yes, the first two weeks of work are spent documenting your message and finding where the conversion path breaks before anything gets built.
People hesitate on the first note more than on anything else, and it is almost never about money. It is not knowing what the note sets in motion. So here is the entire sequence.
Before you send anything: what to have ready
Very little. A link to your site, one or two sentences about what is not working, and any number you wish were higher.
You do not need a brief. You do not need to have diagnosed the problem first. People often try to arrive with a tidy summary, and the tidy summary usually leaves out the detail that turns out to matter, which is generally something like "we get plenty of calls but half of them want the thing we stopped offering."
Week 1: the free first conversation
A real conversation, not a scripted discovery call. I will ask what you sell, who buys it, what has already been tried, and what happens today between someone finding you and someone contacting you.
Somewhere in there I will usually tell you what I think the first fix is. That is not a bonus. It is the point. A conversation that only has value if you buy something afterward is not worth your time, and you should leave with a point of view whether or not you ever hire me.
The order I work through is described in how I decide what to fix first, if you would like to see the diagnostic before the call rather than during it.
Week 1 to 2: the written recommendation
Within a few days you get something in writing. It says what I think the problem is, what I would do about it, in what order, at what price, and what it would look like to do nothing for now.
It recommends the lightest useful scope rather than the largest defensible one. Sometimes that recommendation is a $225 starter package. Sometimes it is that your offer needs work before any marketing spend makes sense and you should call me in three months. Both of those have happened.
Nothing is owed at this stage. That is the design.
Week 2: your decision, without pressure
Take the time you need. There is no follow-up sequence engineered to create urgency, because urgency manufactured by a consultant is a bad reason to start a working relationship.
If the answer is yes, we agree on scope and start. If the answer is not yet, that is a normal answer and the recommendation is still yours to use.
Weeks 3 and 4: the first real work
The first two weeks of paid work are almost always diagnosis and documentation, regardless of what we eventually build.
- Message documentation. Audience, the pressure they are under, your promise, your proof, your differentiation, and the next step, written down in one place.
- Path review. Walking your site the way a stranger would, counting steps and finding the moments where someone has to guess.
- Proof inventory. What evidence exists, what is usable, and what needs to be collected.
- Follow-up check. Sending an inquiry through your own form and timing what happens.
It is not the most exciting fortnight, and it is the reason the rest of the work goes faster. Building before this is done is how people end up with a beautiful page that says the wrong thing.
What you have at day 30
- A written message document your whole team can use.
- A named first fix, with the reasoning attached.
- A priority order for everything else, so the next three decisions are already made.
- At least one thing actually changed on your site.
- A short list of numbers you will watch from here.

What I need from you
One person who can approve a decision in the same week it is made. Access to the site and analytics. Honest answers about what has already been tried and did not work, including the parts that were your idea. That is genuinely most of it.
When you are ready, the first conversation is free.
Frequently asked questions
What happens after you contact a marketing consultant?
You send a short note, we meet for a free first conversation, you receive a written recommendation with the lightest useful scope and a price, and if you say yes, the first two weeks are spent documenting the message and finding where the conversion path breaks.
Do I need to prepare anything for the first consultation?
No. Bring your website, a rough sense of what is not working, and any number you wish were higher. Preparing a brief is not required and sometimes hides the useful detail.
Is the first consultation actually free, or is it a sales call?
It is free and there is no obligation after it. You leave with a point of view on what to fix first whether or not you ever hire me, because a conversation that only has value if you buy something is not worth your time.
How long until work actually starts?
Usually two to three weeks from the first note. One week to talk, a few days for the written recommendation, and then your own decision time, which is yours to take.
What do you need from me once work starts?
One decision-maker available for short working sessions, access to the website and analytics, honest answers about what has already been tried, and a same-week turnaround on approvals. That is most of it.
